PPAZ calls for the dissolution of NAC

PLANNED PARENTHOOD ASSOCIATION OF ZAMBIA (PPAZ) HAS CALLED FOR THE DISSOLUTION OF THE NATIONAL AIDS COUNCIL (NAC) FOR FAILING TO ADDRESS VARIOUS HEALTH ISSUES WHICH COULD HAVE MADE THE COUNTRY ATTAIN THE MILLENNIUM DEVELOPMENT GOALS NUMBER 4, 5 AND 6 BY 2015.

IN 2012, AN ESTIMATED 2.3 MILLION PEOPLE WERE NEWLY INFECTED WITH HIV REPRESENTING ABOUT 33PERCENT LESS THAN THE 3.4 MILLION PEOPLE NEWLY INFECTED IN 2001.
SUB-SAHARAN AFRICA ACCOUNTED FOR 70PERCENT OF ALL THE PEOPLE WHO ACQUIRED HIV INFECTION GLOBALLY.
PPAZ EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR EDFORD MUTUMA SAYS TERMINATING THE CONTRACT OF THE NAC EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR DR CLEMENT CHELLAH IS NOT THE ONLY THING GOVERNMENT SHOULD DO,BUT CAN ALSO CONSTITUTE A BOARD WHICH WOULD BE ADEQUATELY REPRESENTED.
LAST WEEK THE NATIONAL AIDS COUNCIL (NAC) BOARD TERMINATED THE CONTRACT OF SUSPENDED DIRECTOR GENERAL, CLEMENT CHELLAH.
AND DIRECTOR OF POLICY AND PLANNING, ELIZABETH CHOSENI, HAS BEEN APPOINTED TO ACT AS DIRECTOR GENERAL OF THE NATIONAL AIDS COUNCIL UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE.
