To Radio Phoenix In Lusaka Today, Rural Electrification Authority Chief
Executive Officer Geoffrey Musonda Says This Is In Line With The Authority’s
Mandate And Its Efforts To Electrify The Newly Designated Districts In Zambia.
Mr. Musonda Says In Order To Undertake The
Project, The Authority Has Requested For Funding From The Ministry Of Finance
Through The Ministry Of Mines, Energy And Water Development.
He Says The Authority Has Since Concluded A
Pre-Feasibility Study For The Shangombo –Sioma Rural Electrification Project
And Electricity Will Be Supplied To The Shangombo By Teeing Off From The
Existing 66kilovolts Power Line Which Runs From Victoria Falls Power Station In
Livingstone To Mongu Through Senanga.
Mr Musonda Further Says The Authority Plans To
Construct A 55km Overhead Line From The Teeing-Off Point To Matebele Where A 66
By 33killovolts Substation Will Be Set Up.
He Says The Purpose Of The Sub-Station Is To
Introduce 33kv Distribution Network For The Schools And Health Centres Along
The Route To Shangombo.
Mr Musonda Has Stated That From The Sub-Station
At Matebele, The Authority Will Also Construct Another 140killometers Of 33kv
Overhead Line To Shangombo District.
He Says Sioma District Will Be Connected By
Constructing A 45killometers Of 33kv Overhead Line From Matebele To Sioma For
About 45km And The Power Line To The District Will Benefit Health Centres And
Schools.
