17 prisoners have escaped from Mbala state prison but only one has been captured so far. Mbala district commissioner, Best Kabulembe has confirmed the development today.
Mr. Kabulembe says the prisoners escaped after they cut the barbed wire fence during a heavy down pool on Saturday.
He says the escapees were among the hard core prisoners and dangerous remaindees facing murder charges.
the district commissioner has cautioned members of the public to be aware of these criminals and report any suspect to relevant authority.
Mr. Kabulembe says the escapees have poised a security risk to members of the public in the district.
