Thailand Urges Zambian Judiciary’s Child justice forum To Learn From Its Juvenile Justice System


The Department Of Juvenile Observation And Protection In The Ministry Of Justice In Thailand Has Urged The Child Justice Forum (CJF) Of The Zambian Judiciary To Learn From Thailand Which Has Continued To Receive International Recognition In Its Management And Organisation Of The Juvenile Justice System.


Speaking When The Judiciary Of Zambia Child Justice Forum (CJF) Delegation Team Visited The Ministry Of Justice Headquarters In Bangkok Thailand, The Director General- Department Of Juvenile Observation And Protection Tawatchai Thaikyo Said Thailand Has Made Headways In The Management And Organisation Of The Juvenile Justice System.

Mr Thaikyo says Because Of Thailand ’S Management And Organisation Of The Juvenile System, the country is Due To Receive An Award On November 5, 2012 From The International Community For Effectively Conducting A Risk -Factor -Study Affecting The Juveniles Who Come In Conflict With The Law.

he Told The Zambian Delegation, Currently On Study Tour In Thailand, That The Juvenile Justice System In Thailand Was Anchored On Main Objectives Among Them : Raising Standards Of Rehabilitation And Care Of Juvenile Offenders, development Of Personnel And Improvement Of The Quality Of Juvenile Systems and protecting The Rights And Liberties Of Juvenile Offenders.

Others are strengthening Family And Community By Using Alternative Justice System and Carrying Out Administrative Remedy, Rehabilitation, Follow-Up And Evaluation Of Children And Juvenile Behaviour.

He Alsopointed out That The Department Of Juvenile Observation And Protection Of Thailand Ensures Protection And Upholding Of The Rights Of The Juveniles Who Come In Conflict With The Law.

The Director General Further say It is Possible To Use Alternative Legal Situations For The Juvenile Cases.

The Zambia Judiciary Child Justice Forum  Delegation Team  Is Currently On A Study Tour To Bangkok, Thailand And Is Being Led By The High Court For Zambia, Lusaka Judge-In-Charge Justice Jane Kabuka.

Government Institutions Represented In The Delegation Include The Judiciary Of Zambia, The Zambia Police Service, The Zambia Prisons Service And The Ministry Of Community Development, Mother And Child Health.

Others Are Civil Society Organisations (CS0s) Namely: Prisons Care And Counseling Association (PRISCCA), Young Women Christian Association (YWCA) And Rural Youth And Children In Need (RYOCHIN) Trauma Healing Centre. 

UNICEF Is Also Represented.
