4 ARRESTED IN FRA MAIZE SCAM IN KATETE DISTRICT


The Government Joint Investigations Team has formally charged and arrested  (3) FRA employees and a Ministry of Agriculture and co-operative employee for Forgery and Fraudulent False Accounting contrary to section 342 and 326 of the Penal code, Cap 87 of the Laws of Zambia.


Mr. Peter Banda aged 52 of house number 247 Riverside Compound, a Ministry of Agriculture and Co-operative employee, Mr.Micheal Mwanza aged 40 of Muchape Village, a depot buyer of Mukaika Satelite Depot, Mr. Simataa Mweenda aged 36 of house number 10  Boma compound, a  Katete main depot buyer and Mr Melvin Malendo Sitwala aged 36 of Plot number 975 Kalongwezi Sreet Chipata Compound, a Marketing Assistant at FRA all of Katete District, have been charged for the loss of One Hundred Forty Nine Million One Hundred and Seventy Five Thousand Kwacha (149,175,000).
 Particulars of the offence are that the four suspects issued fake Produce Received Notes (PRN) and Goods Received Notes (GRN) to farmers purporting to have supplied maize to FRA when in fact not.
 Three are currently in police custody at Katete Police Station while one is out on police bond and they will all be appearing in court soon.
In a similar event in Southern Province a 38 year old man namely Mr. Charles Himakuni an FRA depot buyer at Silwili Satelite Depot in Monze was yesterday, 10th June 2010 arrested for theft contrary to section 272 of the Penal Code Cap 87 of the Laws of Zambia.
Mr Himakuni has failed to account for 3182 by 50 kilograms bags of maize worth Two Hundred and Six Million kwacha (K206, 000,000) all of which were in his custody. The Joint Investigations Team has also seized one motor vehicle a Toyota Parcel registration number AJB 5125, green in color, belonging to Mr. Himakuni suspected to be proceeds of crime.
He is currently detained at Monze Police Station and will be appearing in court soon.
