The Situation At Nakonde Border And Kapiri Mposhi Posts Has Returned To Normal After Zambia Revenue Authority Management Discussed The Contentious Issues With The Aggrieved Parties Amongst Clearing Agents Who Went On Protest

According To Press Statement Made Available To Radio Phoenix By Corporate Communications Office, Zambia Revenue Authority Has Since Launched Investigations Into The Allegations That Have Been Raised By The Clearing Agents Following Reports In The Local Media About Protests At Nakonde And Kapiri Mposhi Border Posts By The Clearing Agents.
The Authority Has Emphasized That It Is Committed To Its Mandate Of Collecting Revenue In An Efficient, Cost Effective And Transparent Manner.
It Has Further Requested All Stakeholders To Pursue The Option Of Dialogue With Its Respective Offices As The First Course Of Action, Considering That Any Disruption Of Service Ultimately Disrupts The Collection Of Government Revenue And Is Not In The Best Interests Of The Nation.
The Authority Says The Channels Of Communication Have Already Been Opened Following Meetings Held Between Customs Management And The Four Customs Clearing Agencies On 27th April And 4th May 2012.
It Has  Also Called On  Members Of The Public To Take Advantage Of The Mechanisms That The Zra Integrity Committee Has Put In Place In Its Various Locations To Report Any Conduct By Officers That May Not Be In Line With Its Core Values Of Integrity, Professionalism, Fairness, Equity And Courtesy.
Meanwhile, The Authority Has Impounded Cars And Trucks That Were Allegedly Cleared Using Fake Commodity Codes.
The Trucks And Cars Which Are Currently Parked In The Zra Customs Yard Were Intercepted At The Police Check Point At Wulongo Yesterday Following The Protest By The Clearing Agents.

A Zra Officer Who Declined To Be Named Said The Impounded Cars And Trucks Will Form Part Of The Investigations Into The Scandle Of Under-Valued Goods In Which The Government Is Believed To Have Lost The Much Needed Revenue.
The Protesting Agents Have Also Passed A Vote Of No Confidence In Their Zambia F Freight And Forwarders Association (Zaffa) Leadership For Allegedly Failing To Represent Them Adequately
