Zambia-Kenya signs an M.O.U on education, science, technology and innovation

Kenya and Zambia have a signed a memorandum of understanding in science, technology and innovation with the objective of enhancing cooperation between the two countries.
In order to formalize cooperation activities and provide a framework for further cooperation, the two delegations have resolved to revitalize the technical committees of experts in various sectors created during the 7th session of the Zambia-kenya joint permanent commission of cooperation.
During the session which led to signing the m.o.u in science, technology and innovation, the two countries reviewed on-going cooperations including trade, industry and investment, customs and excise, transport, information and communication, metrology, education, livestock development, tourism and wildlife, environment and natural resources, labour, justice, health, crime prevention and foreign affairs.
Both countries have emphasized the importance of implementation and agreed on a follow up mechanism that would improve implementation of decions and this included a mid term technical review, active collaboration by the two high commissions vand the initiation of an implementation matrix.
The tow days 8th joint permanent commission between Zambia and Kenya has also emphasized the need to resolve outstanding issues on milk and milk products and palm based oil which is affecting the volume of bilateral trade and agreed to revive the discussions and development of a bilateral trade agreement.
Speaking during the signing ceremony, acting foreign affairs and tourism minister dr john phiri who education, science and technology minister has appealed to the two monitoring authorities of the two countries to implement the agreed follow up implementation mechanism agreed at the session so as to to keep the momentum.
Dr phiri urged the two countries implementation authorities to ensure that the agreed upon minutes are factored in sectioral plans so as to apportion aooropriate resources for effective implementation of the two countries resolutions.
And Kenyan minister of trade chirau ali makwere noted that the signing of the m.o.u in education, science,technology and innovation is an indication of the mutual desire and commitment of both governments to nurture and sustain the close relations that have always existed between the to countries.
The 9th joint permanent commission between Zambia and Kenya will be held in Nairobi Kenya where the two countries are expected to review progress and setbacks in their agreements.
